62.Autumn River and Mountains Glencoe 100x130 copy

Autumn River and Mountains Glencoe 100×130 oil on Canvas

Swiftly and softly the rain starts to fall. I have set up my easel on the banks of a stream that meanders through the highest point on Rannoch Moor in Scotland. There are a few hints of blue in an otherwise cloudy, autumnal sky. Mists on the horizon fade and blur the distant mountains of Glencoe. The forecast had mentioned that there ‘might be a slight chance of rain’. I don my waterproofs and set to work. It’s a perfect day!

28. September Day Harlyn copy 2

‘September Day at Harlyn Bay. North Cornwall’. Oil on board 70x92cm.  Harlyn has a stunning beach, good for walking and surfing. The waves are usually huge but were more gentle during my visit in September.  As the tide comes in so fast I am forced to keep moving back to avoid a soaking.  The painting will be exhibited as part of my solo show at The Campden Gallery in November.  More details can be found on my website at david-atkins.com

3.The Camel Estuary at Rock Cornwall 22x24in copy 3Painted during a trip to Rock in North Cornwall in June on a fine summers day. I first visited there three years ago making only a few small sketches but wanted to return to paint.   It was the only painting I did there and will be exhibited during August at the Campden Gallery

Summer, Saunton Sands oil on board 66x71cmSchools almost out for summer. Painted at Saunton Sands in North Devon. A fine summers day with a slight breeze that prompted the inevitable use of windbreaks creating a burst of colour and movement.

Feels Like Summer Studland 40x46cm copyA fine day on Middle Beach at Studland in Dorset. After many months spending quiet, grey days painting along the coast, suddenly life returns.  Too cold to swim but perfect for a game of cricket. The painting can be seen at Gallery at 41 in Corfe Castle during July.

2. Early Morning Rye Harbour 24x32 copy 2Painted on the banks of the River Rother next to Rye Harbour in East Sussex.  The painting will be exhibited at the Fairfax Gallery, Tunbridge Wells in their 20th Anniversary Show in June.

A small sketch drawn the day before deciding to paint there.
